Chamber members encouraged to 'Get in the Mix in '06'

Vintage 1960s and 1970s rock and roll group The Guess Who will be this year's headliner at the 10th annual Chingawassa Days.

The announcement was made Monday evening at the Marion Chamber of Commerce annual dinner.

The group is known for songs "American Woman," "No Time," "Share the Land," "Clap for the Wolfman," "These Eyes," "Undun" (which fans sometimes call "She's Come Undone"), and "No Sugar Tonight."

"Get in the Mix in '06" was the theme for the dinner. Chamber president Don Noller encouraged members and guests to participate in community and chamber activities.

Representatives of MAC Foundation (Marion Advancement Campaign) announced scholarships will be awarded this spring to selected seniors at Marion High School.

MAC is planning another announcement at a later date.

— Mayor Martin Tice reported on the state of the city that included 11 businesses that opened or expanded in 2005, the hiring of an economic development director, "Bucks for Building" program that encourages new housing construction with incentives, and a new fire truck due for delivery in the coming weeks.

Voters will have a chance to decide if they want to approve the bond issue in the April 4 election for the new facilities. The bond for the middle school complex and addition Marion Elementary School will soon be paid, providing an opportunity for this bond issue.

If passed, Leiker said construction would begin on the auditorium which would allow the pool to remain open this summer.

— Other Chingawassa Days festival events planned for this year include a reunion of past and present committee members, volleyball tournament, and the return of dodge ball which was a popular event.
