The place to be

Marion is gearing up for the holiday season. You might say it begins this weekend as Marion High School presents "The Music Man," at Marion City Auditorium.

Audiences are in for a treat with the always-stellar performances of MHS actors and musicians.

Reserved seats are on sale now for Friday and Saturday evening performances as well as a Sunday matinee.

Valley United Methodist Church has stepped-up to take charge of the annual Community Thanksgiving dinner this year. The event will be held Thanksgiving Day in the Marion Middle School commons.

Shoppers are encouraged to check out the specials downtown the day after Thanksgiving. Businesses will be decked out in holiday finery and many will have special promotions and sales.

Movement Connection will offer day-care from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. so parents can spend the day shopping, decorating, or cleaning up the Thanksgiving mess.

Santa Claus will make his first appearance from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 25 at his house in the vacant lot between Duckwall's and Suffields. He also will be available from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 26.

NuImage Photography will be on hand to immortalize youngsters with the jolly old elf.

"Once Upon a Christmastime" is the theme for this year's home tours, which will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Nov. 27. Four local homes will be decorated for the yuletide season and open to the public.

Other activities throughout the Christmas season are being planned. Marion will be the place to be this holiday season — for shopping and entertainment.
