Them vs. Us

People often talk about "them" and what "they" should be doing. When things go wrong it's always "their" fault.

"They" should be doing something about issues ranging from the condition of county roads to the high price of gasoline.

"They" should be doing something about economic development.

"They" should be finding a buyer for Kingfisher's Inn or McGillicuddy's Restaurant.

"They" should be filling Industrial Park and the Business Park north of town.

"They" need to keep the REC program so kids will have something to do.

"They" ought to do something about the overcrowded jail. Crime is up. "They" should do something about that, too.

Some other things "they" should work on include downtown beautification and better streets.

That theater project probably won't work because "they" aren't doing anything (meaning there's no physical activity going on at the site).

"They" don't need to hire an economic developer for the county. They've gotten along all this time without one.

Local businesses are struggling and "they" should be doing something to help.

A few weeks ago an editorial on this page made a statement that "nobody cares." That wasn't a true assessment. People do care, but most want to sit back and complain about what's wrong.

Perhaps we're all waiting for "them" to do something to get us back on track.

The biggest misconception and the biggest problem Marion faces is that we don't realize "they" are "us."

It's up to "us" to do something.
