LETTERS:   Think outside the box years ago

Think outside the box

To the Editor:

This past week I proofed Eric Meyer's editorial. My thoughts were simply, "this will cause people to think."

Letters and calls ensued! Calls from members of Marion Country Club. I returned to the editorial to find less than nine percent of it addressed the country club. I had to ask myself, why such attention to so small amount of data? My thinking is, it must have struck a chord.

Isn't that what editorials do? Isn't an editorial written to get readers to think outside the box?

Editorials make me think. At times I decide it is OK to agree to disagree. At other times, I may adjust my thinking. Whichever, it has caused me to ponder the situation.

What about the other 91 percent of Eric's editorial? How many did vote in the election this past Tuesday? Not enough people running, not worth your time? Then consider running.

I attended Relay for Life! What a positive experience. What a great response to it in the Marion County Record.

Concerned about other towns besides Marion? Can you help ease the pain Florence is experiencing?

Are you in favor of more pro-active education? Rewarding great-performing educators? Do you have an opinion? Have you attended any meetings to express those positive opinions?

Let's look at the whole.

Am I prejudice? You bet. Each week I see positive and negative articles printed in the paper. Who instigates these articles? We the people.

Let's THINK! Let's get involved. Let's think outside the box.
