Three area teens head for military training

Staff reporter

Proud parents, grandparents, and members of the Hillsboro and Marion communities packed the Hillsboro Scout House Sunday afternoon to send off three area teens to basic training — Zachary Luthi of Hillsboro, and Justin Anderson and Emmanuel Jackson, both of Marion.

Organized by American Legion Riders #366 of Hillsboro, the teens were presented with certificates of appreciation that were signed by members of the Legion Riders.

"We want them to know we support them which may make them do a better job," organizer Mike Sechler said.

Anderson, the son of John Anderson and Julie Anderson of Marion, left Tuesday for Kansas National Guard training at Ft. Leonardwood, Mo.

Jackson, the son of Gloria Jackson of Marion, left today (Wednesday) for Kansas National Guard Training at Fort Sill, Okla.

Luthi, the son of Darin and Misty Luthi of Hillsboro, will leave Sept. 4 for Lackland Air Force Base at San Antonio, Texas.

College money was the primary reason for joining. Some had specific reasons.

"I want to make something of my life," Anderson said.

"I want to learn leadership skills and want the challenge of the training," Jackson said.
