Tice to retire from USD 408 years ago

Effective Nov. 1 Martin Tice, who has served as Marion-Florence 408 Board of Education clerk since 1989, will be retiring from his position.

However, he will remain on for two days a week with duties to be named later, according to superintendent Lee Leiker.

The board Monday accepted Tice's resignation effective the first of November. It then issued him a contract from July 1 through Oct. 31. Finally, the board issued him another contract beginning Dec. 5 for the two-day-a-week position.

His current clerk position will not be filled with another full-time employee.

Leiker said he and treasurer Becky Summerville will adopt some of Tice's former responsibilities, with a slight compensation.

Leiker is confident in the plan.

"Ultimately it's a savings for the district," he said.
