Traffic control occupies MPD

Marion Police Officers assisted with Old Settlers' Day preparation and traffic control for the annual parade.

Sept. 25: A hit-and-run accident was investigated. Traffic was blocked for an ambulance run.

Sept. 26: Response was provided to a dog barking complaint. A follow-up investigation was conducted regarding a securities fraud. A follow-up investigation also was conducted on an animal abuse case. A warning was issued for failure to wear a helmet on a motor scooter. A 911 hang-up was determined to be a telephone problem. A motorist, who ran out of gas, received assistance. An officer responded to a fight in the 200 block of North Roosevelt Street; subjects were trying to catch a loose dog.

Sept. 27: An officer met with an individual regarding a civil issue. A follow-up was conducted on an insurance fraud investigation. Assistance was provided to an individual who had locked himself out of his house. A domestic battery that had occurred on Cleveland Street was investigated when an individual went to an officer's residence to report the incident. A lost cell phone was reported. Traffic was blocked for an ambulance run.

Sept. 28: A follow-up was conducted on a telephone scam investigation. Suspicious activity was checked in the downtown area; everything was OK.

Sept. 29: An investigation was conducted regarding a fight that occurred between juveniles at Marion Middle School. A welfare check was conducted. An officer assisted a sheriff's deputy with a burglary in-progress call in Lincolnville. A warning was issued for loud music in the area of Cedar and Highland streets. Barricades were set up in parade areas. An officer investigated a report of battery in the 300 block of West Santa Fe Street.

Sept. 30: Officers were in downtown area to provide traffic control for parade. Vehicles were moved from no parking areas on North First Street. A warning was issued for loud music from an automobile. Assistance was provided to an ambulance crew on a run. Officers attended a meeting at the police department. City crews were contacted regarding a problem at sewer lift station. An officer met with a business owner regarding problems with a former employee. One person was arrested after an officer responded to a fight in the area of Eisenhower and Main streets. Assistance was provided to a sheriff's deputy with a noise complaint at Marion Country Club. An ambulance crew received assistance on a run.

Oct. 1: A motorist received assistance on North Eisenhower Drive. A road obstruction was removed in the area of Eisenhower and Main streets when construction fencing had blown across the road. An ambulance crew received assistance on a call. A warning was issued for illegal operation of a slow speed vehicle. Littering in Central Park was investigated. An officer investigated a complaint of a suspicious person near residences in the 300 block of South Lincoln Street.

Oct. 2: Three juveniles were reported on the roofs of downtown businesses; an officer made contact with the juveniles and their parents.

Oct. 3: An individual was arrested on two out-of-county warrants. Response was given to a report of a fight in the 100 block of West Santa Fe Street; the subjects denied a fight had occurred.

Oct. 4: A warning was issued for speeding. A possible criminal damage to property in the 200 block of North Freeborn was investigated; everything was OK; a subject destroyed his own property. A report of juveniles shooting a BB gun was checked in the 300 block of South Lincoln Street; an officer met with several youths. A dog running at-large was picked up. An ambulance crew received assistance on a run.

Thursday: A warning was issued for a defective tail light. An officer met with an individual regarding parking a semi truck in city limits.

Friday: A warning was issued to an underage driver who was driving against restrictions. An officer responded to a complaint of a dog running at-large in the 400 block of South Third Street; the dog was not located. Assistance was provided to an ambulance crew on two runs, one being at Marion High School football field. A vehicle was stopped at Main and Elm streets and the driver was arrested for DUI; two occupants in the vehicle were charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Saturday: Suspicious activity was checked in the area of Ashley Drive; everything was OK. A warning was issued for failure to use headlights when required. Officers were at the range for firearms qualifications.

Sunday: A warning was issued for parking on a sidewalk in front of Marion Historical Museum. Charges are pending following a report of domestic violence in the 300 block of South Fourth Street; the case remains under investigation.

Officers drove 1,702 miles, and issued seven warnings and made three arrests.
