Truck drivers cited for driving on Eisenhower

Semi tractor-trailer drivers were issued warning citations this past week by Marion Police Officers for driving on Eisenhower Drive. Only trucks hauling local deliveries are allowed on the street.

Dec. 26: Officers attended meetings. Follow-up work was conducted on investigations.

Dec. 27: A speeding vehicle was reported on South Roosevelt Street but the vehicle was not located. A traffic hazard was removed from a roadway on South Third Street. An opened door was found and secured. An individual was checked who was walking on U.S.-56 between Cedar Street and K-256. Construction cones were returned to a construction site after being removed. A warning was issued to a semi tractor-trailer driver for driving on Eisenhower Drive.

Dec. 28: Department weapons were armored. An assault complaint was filed. Routine maintenance was performed on a department vehicle. A warning was issued for no headlight on a bicycle after hours of operation.

Dec. 29: Follow-up work was conducted on an assault investigation.

Dec. 30: Routine maintenance was performed on a department vehicle. Vehicle inspections were conducted. A warning was issued to a driver of a semi tractor-trailer for driving on Eisenhower Drive. A report of domestic violence on Fourth Street was investigated.

Dec. 31: An officer took a complaint of underage drinking on Main Street that occurred the previous night. A sheriff's deputy received assistance with a prisoner. A subject was stopped on a bicycle for not having a headlight during hours of operation which led to the arrest of the for being in possession of a stolen bicycle. A warning was issued for illegal fireworks. A motorist received assistance with directions. Assistance was given to a sheriff's deputy with a prisoner. A message was delivered to a citizen. Traffic control was provided during a fireworks display for a New Year's celebration. A motorist received assistance with inoperable lights on a trailer.

Jan. 1: A report of children playing in an unoccupied dwelling was investigated; items left by the children were removed. Traffic control assistance was provided to the fire department during a call.

Officers drove 481 miles, and issued five warning citations and made one arrest.

Jan. 2: Two citations were issued for dogs running at-large. Assistance was provided to an emergency medical services crew on an ambulance run. A report of suspicious activity was investigated. A trespassing complaint in the 400 block of Freeborn Street was filed. An open business door was discovered; the business was checked and secured.

Tuesday: A follow-up was conducted on a theft case. An investigation was conducted after a report of damage to property in the 800 block of North Cedar Street caused by a rifle. A possible prowler was reported in the 700 block of Nickerson Street; officers were unable to locate a suspect.

Wednesday: Officers attended district court. A warning was issued to a subject for illegal lights on a vehicle.

Thursday: A gas skip was investigated. A suspect was located for an interview on a case.

Friday: A runaway juvenile was picked up and returned to parents. A subject was fingerprinted for a background investigation. A warning citation was issued for illegal parking at Marion Elementary School. A follow-up investigation was conducted on thefts of Christmas decorations. Sheriff's deputies received assistance at the jail with an out-of-control prisoner.

Saturday: A motorist with vehicle problems received assistance. An officer met with an individual who picked up dogs on U.S.-77 and brought them to town. An individual was given a warning citation for illegal lights on vehicle. Two dogs were picked up for running at-large; the owner was notified and dogs were taken to Animal Health Center of Marion County. Two bike riders received warnings for not having proper lights after dark.

Sunday: A lost motorist received assistance. A civil stand-by was provided in the 100 block of Ashley Drive. A road obstruction was removed in the 500 block of North Cedar Street. An officer met with a member of Kansas Bureau of Investigation regarding a wanted subject.

Officers drove 683 miles and issued two citations, five warning citations, and made one arrest.
