Twins born at Marion Manor

The aviary draws the attention of everyone who comes into the facility. The colorful birds, most of the finch family, are quite fascinating. Among the finches are our two doves, which despite their lack of color and antics seem to be the favorites.

Dedicated to one another they have hatched several babies and are equally dedicated parents. We noticed our doves were setting on their nest, which is nothing out of the ordinary, however when hatching time arrived, we discovered — much to our delight — twins. This is a first for the doves and all have enjoyed watching the two youngsters grow and learn to fly.

In the past we have placed a young chick in "protective custody" to keep the other birds from pulling out feathers. The twins have stuck together and have not been subjected to other birds picking at them.

Along with the excitement of watching the new twins, we have been busy with other activities as well.

Monday and Wednesday we played our usual bingo. The Red Hat Society women met Thursday with Jane King as hostess. The quiet lounge was packed. Residents enjoyed snacks and reminisced about favorite memories.

Friday was our lunch bunch trip to McDonald's. The van was packed with nine residents joining in for the outing. Volunteer Claire came to eat with her mother and help assist us with the ordering of lunches. Med. Aide, Uncle Waltie met us at McDonald's to assist the residents. It was so nice of him to help on his day off.

We ended Friday with the 7:30 p.m. late bingo.
