Urologist offers services at St. Luke Hospital

St. Luke Hospital Administrator Jeremy Armstrong announced that a urologist will begin to serve patients beginning today (Wednesday).

During the Feb. 27 meeting of the board of directors of Marion County Hospital District #1, Armstrong said Dr. Don Kosko currently was practicing in Emporia and will begin serving the hospital once a month.

Armstrong reported:

— A certified nurse practitioner from Newton was interested in moving her practice to Marion.

— Tele-radiology now is available where radiology films can be sent via telephone lines and read by radiologists in Emporia. Previously the films were delivered by courier.

— A strategic planning session for board members and department heads was planned from noon to 6 p.m. April 5 at Country Dreams bed and breakfast.

In other business:

The plan included improvements and some new facilities at the current hospital location.

No plans are in the works for making such improvements but the plan will serve the board well in determining direction, Armstrong said.

The free plan was valued at $50,000-$100,000.

— The board approved the audit which included a favorable letter from auditors. The hospital ended the budget year with a net revenue of $229,000.

Chief financial officer Hilary Dolbee said the bottom line got better.

— Dolbee reported on the January financials.

Cash was up for the month, the district received the first property tax payment from the county, and revenues had increased for outpatient and home health services. Revenue from the living center remained constant. Overall expenses are down.

— Following a 30-minute executive session to discuss personnel, the board returned to regular session and approved a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) agreement with Bruce Skiles.

— A payment of $9,000 was approved to QuadraMed for coding software in medical records.

The next board meeting will be at 7 p.m. March 27 in the clinic basement.
