USD 408: Elementary school roof to be repaired years ago

Marion-Florence USD 408 voted 6-1 Monday to allow Washington Company to repair the leak in the gym ceiling at Marion Elementary School.

The ceiling leaked in the hallway connecting the school to the gym and on the main gym floor this past school year.

For $38,744 Washington has said it will fix the leak by applying a "protective cover" to the roof.

The cover will start with a base acrylic coat on the roof. Then a two-inch insulated foam cover, followed by another coat will finish the job. The project includes a 10-year warranty.

Superintendent of schools Lee Leiker said he was very pleased when dealing with Washington in the past, and was confident it would solve the problem.

Leiker also estimated it would take 60 days to complete the project, and would not affect the students, teachers, or classes.
