USD 408 superintendent gives update on building project years ago

Marion-Florence USD 408 superintendent Lee Leiker updated the board of education Monday at its normal meeting with the progress of the district's building project.

The auditorium, which is located between the current gymnasium and middle and high school building, will be completed before the gymnasium/indoor pool.

Leiker said the staff took a tour of the facility Monday during an in-service meeting.

"It was a great opportunity for them to see the building," Leiker said.

He also said limestone for the entry way will be delivered this week, along with the brick masonry for the outside of the building. The rest of the brick should be in by next week, and Davey Hett of Hett Construction is currently pouring the concrete underneath the risers.

The window and door frames have been delivered, and Leiker foresees the building to be enclosed in the next few weeks.

Completion is set for sometime in mid-to-late November.

The gymnasium/indoor pool should be complete by April or May of 2008.

This week, contractors are assembling the wall frame of the pool, pouring the footing, and installing plumbing. The pre-cast of the pool is currently being manufactured.

A concern at an earlier public meeting was the absence of a baby pool. Leiker said he is working with project architect Greg Tice on incorporating one.

"It looks promising," Leiker said.
