Variety show a success

To the Editor:

The Marion County Community Theatre Company Countywide Variety Night was a huge success.

The evening started with the sounds of The Greenhorns (who have Marion County connections through Goessel). They are a country band consisting of the following members: Dan Carlson of Falun, Gregg Eichorn of McPherson, Jerry Jones of Lindsborg, K.D. "Smitty" Schmidt and Rollin Schmidt, both of Goessel.

Next was Marion High School senior Joel Zeiner who is part of the MHS drum line and performed a solo on the drums. Marion High School junior Cassie Legg presented a very funny solo humorous performance entitled "Laughing Wild."

Barbara Anderson is a singer/songwriter from Burns who played her guitar and sang about the Kansas prairie and rural life. Next was Hillsboro High School junior Kelsey Unruh and her band, Vaughn Jost (youth pastor at Ebenfeld MB), David Vogel (junior at Hillsboro High School), and J. Michael Hiebert (sophomore at Hillsboro High School).

After intermission, we had repeat performances from The Greenhorns, Kelsey Unruh (who also sang a duet with David Vogel), and Barbara Anderson.

We also heard from Marion High School senior Jordan Timm who read a hilarious prose piece entitled "The Politically Correct Story of Chicken Little."

The event was emceed by Jami Williams and Andy Hansen. A special thanks to Margo Yates and Teresa Huffman for organizing the event; Gary and Randy Carlson (and the Greenhorns) for help with the sound; Stan and Chase Williams for running the lights; David Mayfield for manning the curtains; Sondra Mayfield for helping with the refreshments during intermission; and all the people who came and completed surveys about the event.

We were very impressed with the amount of talent we have in Marion County and look forward to future events.
