Velma Scharenberg

Velma M. Scharenberg, 90, died Dec. 15, 2005, at Chase County Health and Rehabilitation Center, Cottonwood Falls.

Born May 13, 1915, she was the daughter of Charles O. and Nora (Knob) Yoakem.

On June 3, 1939, she married Paul Scharenberg at El Dorado. He died in 2003.

She was a homemaker, working with her husband on the family farm until retirement when they moved to Bella Vista, Ark. In later years, they returned to Chase County.

She was a member of Bella Vista Christian Church and Falls Chapter #25 Order of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband; six brothers, Percy, Bus, Cecil, Morris, Ted, and Lloyd Yoakem; and two sisters, Leona Parks and Eunice Leonard.

Survivors include a son, Lyle L. Scharenberg of Naples, Fla.; daughter, Diane Griffin of Burns; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, Cottonwood Falls, with the Rev. Carl Helm of Marion Christian Church officiating. Burial was in Homestead Cemetery.

Memorial funds have been established with Chase County Senior Center or Falls Chapter #25 Order of Eastern Star.
