Verna Lewerenz

Longtime Lincolnville resident Verna Lewerenz, 94, died July 11, 2005, at Trinity Nursing and Rehab Center, Merriam.

Born June 10, 1911, she was the second of seven children of Otto and Katharina (Emilie) Fenske.

She graduated from Lincolnville High School in 1929, then became a teacher in a country school near Lincolnville.

On Sept. 4, 1932, she married Erwin (Mike) Lewerenz.

She was a homemaker and worked as a postal clerk at the post office where her husband was postmaster. She retired in 1971, after 28 years of service.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Meals on Wheels program, St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary, and local and county senior citizens' boards.

In September 2001, she moved to Kansas City to be near her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Warren, three brothers, Roland, Leo, and Lloyd, and sister, Mildred.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Rex Garrelts; brother, Wesley Fenske; sister, Aileen Shields; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Lincolnville, with the Rev. Alan Stahlecker officiating.

Burial will be in Lincolnville Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with the church.
