Verne M. Ayers
Verne M. Ayers, 88, died Feb. 17, 2006, at Dillon Living Center, Hutchinson.
Born Jan. 20, 1918, at Pratt, he was the son of Roland and Bessie (Weikal) Ayers.
On Sept. 1, 1938, he married Juanita Willis at Great Bend.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a salesman and treasurer for the former Roberts Printing & Stationery, retiring in 1981.
He was a longtime Hutchinson resident, also living at Nickerson and Marion County Lake.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Guy, Roland, Carl, and Howard; sister, Margaret; granddaughter, Gail Bugner; and great-grandson, Russell Griffin.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita; son, Dennis Ayers of Cedar City, Utah; three daughters, Janice Piatt of Nickerson, Judith Bechtold of Andover, and Jeanette Bechtold of Plano, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with Pastor Jim Autrey and the Rev. Ron Lowry officiating.
Burial was in Fairlawn Cemetery, Hutchinson.
Memorial funds have been established with the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
