Virgil Bell celebrates 100th birthday years ago

Virgil H. Bell celebrated his 100th birthday Jan. 7 at Prescott Smaritan Village, Prescott, Ariz.

He lived most of his life in Emporia. In 1994, he and his wife, Eula (Amick) Bell moved to Arizona to be close to family. Eula died in 1997.

Virgil was a veteran of the U.S. Army in the 1930s and the Navy Seabees during World War II. He was a farmer, baker, and in later years, worked for the Emporia school district.

His family includes a daughter and son-in-law, Charles and LaVon McGlinn of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces of the Marion area, Lois Weber, Wanda Richmond, Betty Richmond, and Kay Steele, and Linda Braden of Grandview, Mo.

Ralph and Wanda Richmond and Rodney Richmond attended the celebration.
