Virgil Beneke

Virgil P. Beneke, 78, of Ord, Neb., died May 23, 2006, at Howard County Community Hospital, St. Paul, Neb.

Born March 8, 1928, at Newton, he was the son of William and Marie (Krause) Beneke.

He was raised on a farm east of Lincolnville and received his education at St. John's Lutheran Elementary School and graduated from Lincolnville High School.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1948. After the service, he returned to Lincolnville where he farmed with his father. He then took over management of Lincolnville Farmland Co-Op for 13 years.

In 1961, he was assigned to Ord, Neb., as assistant manager of the Farmland Co-Op. He was manager of Ord Farmland Co-Op and North Loup and Ericson co-ops for 28 years. Prior to his retirement, he was interim manager for Farmland at Minden, Neb., and Richmond, Mo.

On Aug. 17, 1968, he married Reatha (Ackles) Moody at Ord, Neb.

Survivors include his wife, Reatha of Ord, Neb.; stepson, Martin Moody of Lincoln, Neb.; stepdaughter, Lisa Moody of North Loup, Neb.; one sister, Luella Snelling of Wichita; four brothers, Emil Beneke of Valley Center, Eldon Beneke of Lincolnville, Rodney Beneke of Atlanta, Ga., and Lynford Beneke of Parsons; and two step-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Tuesday morning at Ord Memorial Chapel.

Inurnment was in Ord City Cemetery with military honors.

Memorial funds have been established with Boy Scouts of America, Troop 194 of Ord, or a scholarship fund for Ord High School and North Loup-Scotia High School FFA chapters
