Volleyball preseason tourney set for Saturday

Tournament kicks off sports season for Marion athletes

Sports reporter

The first sporting event for Marion High School in its new league, the Mid-Central Activities Association, will be the varsity volleyball squad playing Hoisington.

The MCAA pre-season tournament will have pool play rounds at both Marion and Hillsboro gyms.

After pool play, the tournament will move all its matches to Hillsboro High School.

There will be four, three-team pools, with the top two from each pool advancing to tournament play. The other four will compete in an extra round robin tournament at Hillsboro Middle School gym.

Marion has been placed in Pool D and will face Hoisington at 9 a.m. Saturday at the MHS gym.

The Lady Warriors will finish up pool play with a match against Smoky Valley following a 10-minute break.

After the initial round robin, the eight advancing teams will be re-seeded based on record and other tie-breakers. If Marion fails to advance, it will play in the extra round robin tournament starting at 1 p.m. at HMS.

If the Lady Warriors finish in the top two in pool play they will start play in the tournament round at either 1 or 2 p.m. Saturday.

One loss will knock a team out of the tournament, but a loser's bracket is set up to guarantee each team at least three matches.

The championship match starts at 6 p.m. The matches will not affect records, but medals will be handed out for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams.
