Volunteers tally more than 12,000 hours of labor at Lincolnville years ago

The new Lincolnville Community Center was completed in July, exactly two years from the time a $181,664 Kan-Step community development block grant from Kansas Department of Commerce was awarded to the city for materials for the 4,000 square foot building.

According to "co-sparkplug" Jane Pigorsch, approximately 83 people donated a total of 12,403 hours of labor to the project. The manhours were calculated to be worth $196,530. The value of equipment donated for use was $19,041, making volunteer contributions worth $215,571.

An open house was held Aug. 13 to thank businesses and individuals who contributed to the building.

Any remaining grant money will be used for landscaping and erecting a sign at the site.

Pigorsch said several groups are planning fund-raisers to provide money to purchase items still needed. She said those funds, together with rental money and other contributions, will be used for a podium and kitchen supplies.

Rental rates for the public are $50 for one to four hours of use and $100 for a whole day. Non-profits may rent the building for $50. A $200 refundable deposit is required from all renters. To obtain a rental form, call city hall at 620-924-5208.
