Jeremy Vondenkamp and the Marion High School Warriors track team keeps getting better each week.

The senior won both the 110 and 300-meter hurdle races Friday at the Mid-Central Activities Association League meet at Marion.

Vondenkamp's time of 14.73 seconds in the 110m race is a school record.

"He is in a loaded field for both hurdle races in our regional," head coach Grant Thierolf said. "But he is set up to run very well and will have a great regional and state."

The coaching staff was happy with long distance runners on both the boys' and girls' squads as well.

Danielle Cope won the 3200m run by 11 seconds.

"She ran away from the pack with 800 meters left and really showed off for the home crowd," Thierolf said.

Gavin Moore used his speed late to run away from the crowd Thierolf said, and take first in the same race with a time of 10 minutes, 11.05 seconds.

Erin Carr continued her dominance on the track winning the 100m dash with a school record time of 12.47 seconds.

Erin Richmond tied a school record with a pole vault of nine feet, six inches, and took third in the javelin with a season-best throw of 111-8.

As a team the boys finished third and the girls' team was tied for fourth.

Thierolf is ready for his team to play host Friday to a regional.

"Ours will be the toughest in the state but we are used to the competition, so we will be ready," he said.
