Voters go to polls Tuesday

Polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday for voters to cast their ballots.

In Marion, voters will choose four Marion City Council members from eight candidates.

Candidates are Stacey Collett, Jim Crofoot, Jim Davis, Max Hayen, Bill Holdeman, Jerry Kline, Darvin Markley, and Gene Winkler.

Crofoot and Hayen currently serve on the commission.

The two top vote-getters will serve four-year terms, and the other two winners will serve two-year terms. The mayor's position will be up for election in 2007.

Another decision on the ballot will be for residents of Marion-Florence USD 408 to decide if new facilities are in the district's future. A "yes" vote on the ballot will approve a bond issue for a new gymnasium, indoor swimming pool, and fine arts center, and "no" vote will not.

Polling locations are:

Marion city south of Main Street, and parts of Centre and Grant townships — Our Savior Lutheran Church, 320 S. Cedar Street, Marion.

Marion city north of Main Street, and parts of Clark, Clear Creek, Gale, and Wilson townships — Emmanuel Baptist Church, 229 N. Walnut Street, Marion.

Florence city, parts of Catlin, Fairplay, Grant, and Milton townships, and all Doyle Township can cast their ballots at Florentine Senior Center, downtown Florence.

Absentee ballots are available at Marion County Clerk's office at the courthouse until noon Monday. Mailed ballots need to be returned to the clerk's office by 7 p.m. Tuesday.
