Warren Hughes

Warren Walton Hughes, 83, died March 31, 2006, at Peabody.

Born Feb. 3, 1923, near Manchester, Okla., he was the son of Alvin and Orbay (Chaney) Hughes.

He was a transportation engineer for Smith and Loveless in Lenexa.

On Sept. 5, 1942, he married Letha Thornton at Edna.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Darrel Hughes; and three sisters, Kathleen Britnall, Maxine Haltom, and Marjorie Huddleston.

Survivors include his wife, Letha of Peabody; three sons and daughters-in-law, Warren and Juanita (Zuercher) Hughes of Emporia, Jack and Chris (McClure) Hughes of Palmer, Alaska, and Marc and Lynn (Jones) Hughes of Carney, Okla.; daughter, Carolyn Anderson of Peabody; brother, Larson Hughes of Tulsa, Okla.; four sisters, Ruby Broce of Peabody, Bernice Kauffman of Pretty Prairie, Doris Garner of Grand Prairie, Mo., and Norma Reid of Anthony; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Monday morning at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Peabody, with Pastor Jim Pohlman officiating.

A memorial fund has been established with the American Cancer Society.
