Warrior baseball drops two non-league games

During a week in which Marion-Florence/Peabody-Burns had just one doubleheader, the Warriors dropped two games in different fashions.

After leading 1-0 in the second inning April 18 in game one against Sacred Heart, the Warriors were outscored 12-1 the rest of the way en route to a 10-run loss.

Clayton Garnica and Clinton Jeffrey each had a RBI in the game, while Garnica was 2-3 at the plate and Jeffrey was 1-2.

Garnica took the loss on the mound going four innings and allowing 11 runs, and Todd Woodruff allowed a hit and a run on the mound.

The Warriors actually out-hit Sacred Heart 6-5, but committed seven errors to Sacred Heart's zero.

Game two was a different story in the beginning as the Warriors scored three runs in the first, and held a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.

Three Sacred Heart runs tied the score, but the Warriors' bats woke up with six runs in the sixth, and the lead climbed to 10-4.

It didn't even last three outs.

In the bottom of the inning Sacred Heart crossed the plate five times, and cut the lead to one heading into the final inning.

After a scoreless top half of the seventh for the Warriors, Cody Weerts allowed two runs to score, and Sacred Heart took the game, 11-10.

Jeffrey started the game on the mound and went 2 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and one run. Weerts took the loss after giving up 10 runs in four innings.

The two non-league losses drop the Warriors' record to 2-8 overall. MFPB played a makeup game Tuesday at Hoisington and is back on the field Friday for a home game against Wichita Collegiate.
