Travis Hett and the Marion High School golf team were met with a challenge Friday at Hidden Lakes Golf Course in Wichita.

However, the Warriors competed April 17 at Council Grove and came away with a second-place finish in the four-man group.

Hett (78), Jake Bredemeier (83), Luke Gordon (86), and Keith Jones (89) combined for a 336.

"We played OK," head coach Rex Ostmeyer said. "All in all not bad, but with the perfect weather I thought we might shot in the low 320s."

Hett took second place overall with his score, Bredemeier seventh, and Gordon 13th.

The team faced stiff competition Friday at Hidden Lakes.

"This meet was a major step up in competition," Ostmeyer said. "There were a lot of 4A and 5A big boys in the field."

Hett bested his score at Council Grove with a 77, but finished seventh.

"I thought Travis proved he is one of the top players around," Ostmeyer said. "He proved his talent and ability, plus his 77 could have easily been a 72 or 73, so he should be proud."

Bredemeier finished with an 87, Jones an 88, and Gordon a 93.

"Our younger guys should have used this meet as a learning tool, seeing how the big school kids approach a meet," Ostmeyer said.

The golfers will be in action again Monday in Salina at the Sacred Heart meet.
