Warriors dominate at Onaga

It was a good day to say the least for the Marion-Florence/Peabody-Burns wrestling team Saturday at the Onaga Dual Invitational.

The dozen wrestlers that made the trip were a combined 41-19 individually, and won all five duals, claiming the team championship.

The tournament was set up with all six teams wrestling in a round-robin dual format, and individual champions were based on overall record.

"We wrestled really well this weekend," Warrior head coach Chad Adkins said. "It was great."

Charlie Holub, Dillon Wildin, and Adam Regnier were a perfect 5-0 on the day, and all earned first-place finishes in their respective weight classes.

Four other wrestlers, Randy Regnier, Andy Shipman, Cody Wildin, and Derek Riggs were 4-1 and finished second in their classes.

The team has wrestled significantly better in the second half of the season, and could have multiple wrestlers qualify for the state tournament.

"We're starting to put the whole thing together," Adkins said.

Just two matches remain for the rest of the season, including Thursday's home double dual featuring matches against Lyons and Haven.

The final competition of the regular season begins at 9 a.m. Saturday with the Chase County Invitational.

The regional tournament is set for Feb. 15-16 at Eureka, with the state tournament in Hays to follow the next weekend.
