LETTERS:   Way to go, Marion! years ago

To the Editor:

What a blessing it is to live in such a generous community! My family has lived in Marion for two years now, and I continue to be amazed by the caring spirit that is so prevalent among the people here.

I have been especially impressed by the willingness of this community to improve the lives of its children. Many of you volunteer time week after week to coach sports, teach Sunday School, lead club meetings, help at the schools, work at the library, etc. Thank you for all you do!

In May, I was given the opportunity to ask many of the businesses in our community if they would be willing to show their support for the Marion Elementary School by donating door prizes to be presented at the staff appreciation luncheon sponsored by the Parent Advisory Council. Once again, the businesses in this community came through in a big way!

Due to the generosity of local businesses and many parents, we were able to give every staff member at Marion Elementary School a small gift to thank them for all the time and extra effort they put into educating and serving our children.

This past week's vacation Bible school sponsored by the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Marion Christian Church, Marion Presbyterian Church, and Valley United Methodist Church was another great example of the people in this community coming together to enhance the lives of our children. These churches worked together to provide a wonderfully enriching week for our kids and should be commended for their efforts. Thank you to everyone who was involved in this endeavor.

I truly believe that a community is only as strong as its commitment to its children. People of Marion, you should be proud because you obviously are highly committed to making your community stronger and healthier by serving your children. In the words of Zig Ziglar, "There are no traffic jams when you go the extra mile." Thanks to everyone in this community who puts forth the extra effort to make Marion a great place to live.
