Weird weather fools April calendar

Snow boots and ear muffs was nearly the attire for the Easter Bunny to make his deliveries this year. The weather Thursday and Friday in southcentral Kansas looked more like Christmas than Easter with four to six inches of snow falling in the area.

Blizzard and white-out conditions occurred Thursday afternoon and evening which was a far cry from temperatures in the 80s just a few days earlier.

By Sunday morning, the weather was cool but the snow was gone and 50-degree temperatures made Easter egg hunting more bearable.

It's been a while since the weather has been this bizarre. According to the National Weather Service, the last measurable snowfall on record this late in spring, at least in this part of the state, was April 12 in 1957 and 1959. Otherwise, there hasn't been measurable accumulation of snow in early April in recent memory.

Marion County law enforcement worked nearly a dozen vehicle collisions Thursday and Friday in the county with one Friday that resulted in serious, life-threatening injuries to a teen from Beloit.

By weekend, the snow was a distant memory. Cool temperatures continued with a warm-up anticipated by week's end.
