What's ahead

It's mid-May and that marks the beginning of area graduation exercises. We wish each and every graduate the best of luck with their futures. It's our fervent wish that each graduate achieve the greatest success wherever their journeys may take them, but remember their humble beginnings here in Marion County.

As soon as graduation ceremonies are over, we'll be ready to observe Memorial Day. It's probably a safe bet that those American Legion members who are responsible for the Avenue of Flags at Marion Cemetery could use some young volunteers to get the flags and poles put up for the holiday. And then, make an effort to attend the solemn ceremonies at area cemeteries. It's important.

We'll have a few days to catch our breaths then it will be time to roll out the red carpet for Chingawassa Days. In its 11th year, organizers are offering a few new events to complement the tried and true activities that are standards at any Chingawassa Days festival. Buttons are on sale now for $20. The price goes up to $30 after Friday. For more information about the festival see the website at www.chingawassa.com.
