What's the point?

To the Editor:

After reading the editorial about last week's city council meeting, I am wondering why we vote in an election.

The people of Marion have voted for a new mayor and council and a change in "the guard."

The "old guard" did not get the message, or are they just ignoring the wishes of the people to please themselves? Not all the new council members understand the idea either.

I am outraged and angry that Mr. Crofoot had the nerve to actually threaten an elected official in an open meeting with intimidation and no one on the council or in the audience told him he was stepping over the line.

As a businessman, he should know that the words he used sounded very much like blackmail and that is against the law.

Besides that, the mayor is not a child to be treated like that. Whatever the reason for wanting to terminate the administrator, it should be and was determined in executive session.

The way I read the paper, the mayor did what was correct. Let's hope the council also will do what is right.

If Mr. Mayfield wants it out in the open, maybe he can make it public. Since he is so concerned about the city, let him resign, go play golf with his friends, and let the city get on with important business.
