White City defeats Lady Cougars, 48-44 years ago

In a league game played Dec. 5 at White City, the Lady Huskies defeated Centre, 48-44. It was the first of four games the girls played last week.

White City outscored Centre, 27-18, in the first half, but in the second half it was reversed, with Centre scoring 26 points compared to 21 by White City. However, the five-point advantage wasn't enough to give the Cougars a win.

Jackie Klenda led scoring for Centre with 13 points, followed by Selena Seifert with 11 including three three-point goals.

Alyssa Luna was leading rebounder with nine. Klenda provided nine assists. Teaira Turner and Luna each stole the ball four times and Brittany Owens had two blocked shots.

The junior varsity defeated White City, 37-28.

White City led 21-18 at halftime, but their scoring fell flat in the second half, allowing Centre to pull ahead. The girls scored 12 points in the final quarter of the game to win by nine points.

Ten Centre players contributed points. They were: Leann Pankratz, seven; Alisha Barney, six; Samantha Alvarez, five; Jessica Deines, Gloria Belton, and Kristine Jirak, four each; Amy Hajek, Kylie Burhoop, and Nellie Hill, two each; and Bridgette Burns, one.
