Who are they?

Five candidates have thrown their hats in the ring for two Marion City Council seats. Incumbents Jerry Kline and Bill Holdeman, Gerald Henderson, Steve Smith, and Katherine DeFilippis will be on the ballot when voters go to the polls Feb. 26 in a primary election.

At that time, the top four vote-getters will advance to the general election April 1.

With the primary less than a month away, that doesn't give Marion voters much time to get to know the five candidates.

Because of time constraints, the newspaper will not host a public forum before the primary. However, all candidates were sent questionnaires and their responses will be published in the paper in few weeks.

Be sure to watch the paper for the interviews. In the meantime, make an opportunity to find out who these people are. If you already know them, talk to them about their plans as city council members.

They have done their part — they have stepped up and put their names on the ballot. It's our responsibility as voters to get informed about the candidates.
