Wildcat boys win one, lose two

Marion Middle School Wildcats traveled Thursday to Lyons. The boys' eighth grade team soundly defeated the Lions, 38-22.

Marion looked good in the early stages of the game, but Lyons hung around for the entire first half, going to the locker room with a two-point deficit.

The Wildcats had a difficult time getting an offensive flow against the opponents' 1-3-1 zone.

Players made an adjustment at halftime and began to attack the defense with excellent interior passing.

Holding Lyons scoreless in the third quarter allowed the Wildcats to stretch the lead to a comfortable margin, winning the game 38-22.

Eric Vogel was the leading scorer with 10 points. Isaac Hett finished with seven and Brian Fruechting, five.

The seventh grade team had a tough game from the start, digging themselves a hole in the first quarter with turnovers and confused play.

They closed the gap with a good second quarter, but couldn't sustain the effort in the second half, losing to Lyons 27-38.

Landon Leiker had 11 points and Jordan Versch had nine.

The mixed team lost, 10-22. Louis Holt had four points. Ryan Jones, three.
