Wildcat football sweeps Lindsborg

The seventh grade Marion Middle School team notched its first victory of the year Thursday, a 14-0 victory against Lindsborg, to improve to 1-2.

Les Riggs led the Wildcat ground attack once again with 173 yards in 14 carries. Quarterback Chris Sprowls was second on the team with 10 carries for 70 yards.

Other rushers were Conner Thierolf 15 yards, Dillon Richmond 10 yards, and Corey Seacat four yards.

Mitchell Ragland, Travis Williams, and Blake Riggs opened holes on the offensive line for the Wildcat running backs.

Every Wildcat defensive players had at least one tackle. Thierolf and Andy Shipman led with eight each, and Blake Riggs added seven.

Jordan Versch ended a Lindsborg drive with an interception.

The eighth graders finished off the Viking sweep with their third victory of the season, 20-6.

It looked bad for MMS at the start, as it allowed a touchdown on the first play of the game, and trailed 6-0 at halftime.

The Wildcats bounced back in the second half with a 45-yard touchdown run by Drew Maddox.

Nick Klenda added a 70-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter, bringing his game total to 139 yards on the ground. Isaac Hett completed a two-point conversion pass to Eric Vogel to give MMS 20 points.

Klenda was big on the other side of the ball as well, recording a team-high 11 tackles.

Vogel added 10 tackles, and Tylor Neil tallied five.

MMS will travel Thursday to Ellinwood to take on the Eagles.
