Wildcats take all three

It was a good day Thursday to be a Wildcat. All three Marion Middle School girls' basketball teams defeated Lyons.

The A-team roared ahead early with 14 points in the first quarter, including six from Kayley Heerey. In the second MMS scored 16 more to lead 30-8 at the break.

Marion only scored 13 points in the second half, but held the Lions to eight, en route to a 43-16 victory.

Heerey and Emily Meador led the team with 10 points each. Sarah Freeby had six points, while Kristen Steinborn, Lindsay Hett, and Julia Zeiner chipped in with four points each.

The B-team used the same formula as the A-team, as it jumped ahead 22-6 at the break.

It was a good thing because Lyons scored 15 points in the third quarter to Marion's two.

Leading by just three, MMS outscored Lyons 10-3 in the final frame to seal the victory, 34-24.

Donna Cady was the team-leader with seven points, and Jordan Harper scored six. Meador and Josie Freeby added four each.

In the C game, neither offense could get going as Marion trailed 4-2 after one quarter. The Wildcat defense held tough in the second, and did not allow a point.

An 8-2 third quarter for Marion iced the victory, as the Wildcats finished off a perfect day, 17-11.

MMS used a balanced attack with Raeleen Allen and Amy Goering leading the team at four points each.

Kayla Williams scored three points, and Harper, Alex Cain, and Melissa Carlson chipped in with two each.

The Wildcats stay home for an 11 a.m. game Saturday against Hoisington.
