Wildcats win one, lose one

For the second week in a row Marion Middle School football teams split their two games.

The seventh grade team, led by Cody Wildin and Drew Maddox, beat the Hillsboro Trojans 30-6 to improve to 2-0.

Wildin ran for two touchdowns, and Maddox ran for 71 yards and one touchdown.

Nick Klenda helped the offense with 12 carries for 78 yards and one touchdown. Tyler Neil kicked two extra points, and Klenda added one.

Neil also played well on defense, leading the team in tackles with 11. Eric Vogel was second with eight tackles.

The eighth grade game was a bit of a let down. Hillsboro defeated Marion 32-8. However, after trailing 32-0 at halftime, the Wildcats held Hillsboro scoreless in the second half.

Derek Riggs led Marion with 85 yards rushing and the lone touchdown.

Riggs was the defensive star also, recording 12 tackles. Sheldon Boone and Mitch Leppke added nine each. Matt Thierolf and Gabe Moore chipped in with seven. The Wildcats fell to 0-2.
