Wrestlers struggle against Remington and Eureka

Just one week after Marion High School coach Chad Adkins said his squad had one of its best dual victories ever, the Warriors dropped two matches Thursday at the Chase County Double Dual.

MHS fell to Remington 37-24, and Eureka 47-24.

Like always MHS gave up 30 points because of open classes, but Adkins still felt his team could have come out 2-0.

"We've got a lot of work to do," Adkins said. "They didn't come out and wrestle this week."

As a team, they didn't.

The Warriors went 7-9 in matches wrestled in the two duals, far below their normal performance.

There were a few individuals who wrestled well as they prepared for the Mid-Central Activities Association tournament Saturday.

In the 112-pound weight class senior Chelsea Arnhold handled Remington's Cameron Motter, 11-6. Her next match, a loss, may have been even more impressive.

Her opponent was Nash Burtin, a state champ from a year ago, and undefeated this season.

Although Arnhold lost 5-2, she battled with Burtin the entire match, frustrating the wrestler who is used to handling his opponents with ease.

"She did a great job," Adkins said. "She did everything she had to do to take him out of his offense."

Junior Casey Nelson had another workmanlike performance with two pins in under two minutes.

Freshman Charlie Holub stayed hot, as he pinned both of his opponents in under two minutes as well.

"He's got a lot of raw skill," Adkins said. "He's really doing a good job right now."

With the regular season now finished, the Warriors will wrestle Saturday in their first ever MCAA tournament.

"If we wrestle like we can, we're going to be fine the rest of the year," Adkins said.

SE of Saline

MHS ended the regular season with strong individual performances at the SE of Saline Invitational.

Nelson, Holub, and Arnhold all performed well once again.

Nelson won all three of his matches, and Arnhold and Holub finished 3-1. Junior Adam Depler also won all three of his matches.
