Your Turn

Can the high school designate two or three parking stalls for visitors, with a 30 minute time limit so visitors don't have to park a mile away?

To whomever said there should be an ordinance on what color a building should be painted — I could not agree more! Have you seen some of the drab browns and dull beige-colored buildings, not to mention those beautiful white ones.

Yes, TC's What Not Shop is bright. It is eye-catching and says, "Wake up, Marion!" It looks better than a dilapidated empty eyesore. It brings new life into an old town.

***

Since when is it OK for city employees to use city vehicles to transport their children? Tax dollars at work???

***

Thank you, TC! I wake up to your bold and beautiful building every morning when I come around the curve and it makes me smile!

***

"Your Turn" needs to stop. All it does is hurt people and put negative thoughts in people's minds.

***

Why can't people be glad when a new business comes to town and wish them success instead of so much jealousy and backbiting? If the city council passed an ordinance to limit what color buildings must be, will they make the bright yellow bus barn repaint? We need more praying for our city and its success.

***

If whomever complained about the grant money going to TC's What Not Shop had a clue, they would know there is a long list of things that are still needed there.

People of Marion should be happy that someone wants to help the community grow and prosper. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Didn't your mama tell you if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Follow the Golden Rule and do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

The taxpayers of Marion-Florence USD 408 got took. We voted on one plan for a new fine arts and sports center, but now are getting a watered-down version. Where are our representatives?

***

To the person who wants to put restrictions on what color we can paint our business or homes: go live in North Korea or China. The last time I checked, this is still a free country. We are already bogged down with regulation upon regulation, most of which are not enforced anyway.

After reading Donna Bernhardt's "Downright disgruntled" article in last week's paper and her comments about "damned if we do and damned if we don't," I just wanted to comment — just report it the way it is, negative or positive. If you "suffer the wrath of the city decision-makers and are labeled negative," then what are they being labeled?

Harry Bennett had a good discussion with good questions and good ideas at the county commission meeting. I hope the commissioners listen to him and quit trying to bully people into thinking the way they think and actually listen to what other people think.

***

Whatever happened to the longevity program that the county discussed about a year ago as a way to "reward" the county employees who had given years of service? Has that gone by the wayside? We hear now that the commission wants to take away the county employees' sick leave. Since these commissioners have been elected, all they want to do is take away from the employees. What an incentive to be a team player and be more productive.

Lime green. Now what is wrong with this color? This is the first bright spot the city of Marion has seen in a long while. The city does not mark its vehicles so the public can identify the city at work. The city council holds public discussions in executive sessions. One would wonder if the city is not proud of its city crews and the council is afraid the public will discover their ineptness. TC's What Not Shop is proud of their business. They want the public to see them and discover what they have to offer. City councilmen, take notice.

***

Once again, results from Marion's primary election showed that Marion voters still want a change. Hopefully we will elect a new mayor who will show some responsibility and leadership to our city council, then they in turn will make better decisions and changes they were elected to do.

Did anyone notice the motorcycle trailer chained to the fire hydrant on Main Street on the public sidewalk?
