Hillsboro found a way to get a new hospital without tax money being spent. Too bad Marion can't do the same. Instead of spending more tax money to add on to the hospital or build a new one, they need to approach this as a business decision and cut out a lot of waste. Marion needs to use the facilities they already have and not duplicate Hillsboro's. Why are the hospital district board positions no longer on the ballot at the time of the general election? Only a handful of people elect the members but people across the eastern part of Marion County pay the taxes to support the hospital. Years ago, when the district first started, we voted for the board members at election time. Since the hospital is taking tax money, their names should be on a public ballot. More spending on the hospital to expand or build a new one should be put on a public ballot — the same as a new jail for the county — so taxpayers have the chance to have a say about tax increases.
