County commissioners, take care of your county employees. Please do not take away our sick leave. We are struggling. Try being a single parent or even married parents and live on these wages. As stated in last week's Your Turn column, many of us have second jobs. We have to. We have house payments, car payments, braces for children, dentist bills, children in sports, school activities. Many of us are carpooling. We can't afford gas. We can only go to home activities for our children. We bring our lunches. We shop at thrift stores. Our children need milk! It is the same price as gas. We are not the department heads who get higher wages. We have no cushion to fall back on. Thank you for our recent race. It is two years too long in coming. Please do not take away our sick leave. We are the county employees. We are your biggest asset. Treat us like we are human and we will work our best for you.
