As one of the newer old settlers in Marion, I have learned it has always been the rule that there be nothing commercial in the park on Old Settlers' Day. Why is it then that there was a table set up in the park for the purpose of selling a book? Of course, it was about Marion, but did anyone ever think that it will line the pockets of those printing it and therefore is certainly commercial! Someone will say "but food is sold." Yes, the Kiwanis Club provides food for the hungry crowd, but the profit (if any) from that is put right back in the community in their effort to accomplish good things for the town. Perhaps these book sellers would be interested in presenting a good part of their sales profit to Marion. I think not!
