In anticipation of his performance as Saturday night headliner at the 20th annual Chingawassa Days, singer-songwriter and pianist Phil Vassar tells the Record he will have no set play list and may even take requests tweeted by audience members.

Other performers will include Cloverton, Lindsay Eli, Brody Caster, Pete Gile, and Coco O’Connor.

Unable to fill all shifts with part-time “volunteer” ambulance attendants, Marion County ambulance director Ed Debesis is hoping to hire two full-time emergency medical technicians.

Marion-Florence schools have purchased a second motor coach to be used instead of yellow school buses on sports and activity trips.

The used 2001 Bluebird coach with 65,000 miles on it will cost $69,900.

Dorothy Conyers will take her son, Jerry, on a three-day, two-night trip she won to Nashville to view the 2016 Country Music Television Music Awards ceremony.

Josh Clevenger has been hired as Margo Yates’ assistant in directing Marion’s parks and recreation department. He will be a swimming coach and baseball game supervisor.

Other recent, current, and coming activities include expanded tots and beginner gymnastics, basketball and softball clinics, antique value estimation, youth track for students through sixth grade, an umpire clinic, water aerobics, bridge lessons, and half-day horsemanship camps.

Joe and El Pickett have been working since February to renovate the former Suffield’s Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing building at the southeast corner of Main and 3rd Sts. into MacGregor’s, an upbeat restaurant and bar with live entertainment.

Marion High School graduates are about to spread their wings and go off to find their futures.

Reann Hamm will go to the University of Kansas to study atmospheric science. William Adame is headed to Jacksonville, Florida, to study underwater welding. Nicholas Stuchlik will pursue a degree in mechanical engineering technology at Kansas State Polytechnic in Salina.

Hillsboro’s Marah Franz won the Class 2A pole vault, Peabody-Burns’ Cody Partridge won the Class 1A long jump, and Goessel’s Brittney Hiebert won the Class 1A 800-meter run at the state track and field meet in Wichita.

Marion’s Kristen Herzet placed second and Tyler Palic third in discus in Class 3A. Goessel’s Zachery Wiens was third in Class 1A 110-meter hurdles.
