After votes were tallied from Tuesday’s election, incumbent Bill Holdeman and Steven Smith were elected to Marion City Council. The other candidates, Gerald Henderson and Katherine DeFilippis, had 191 and 161 votes, respectively. Gerald Kline had 165 write-in votes.

Marion City Council met in special session Friday afternoon and approved installation of spray features at the new indoor swimming pool.

A group of nine people traveled March 19 to Topeka to witness Governor Kathleen Sebelius sign a proclamation designating March 31 as “Civilian Conservation Corps Recognition Day” in Kansas. The group included Bill and Feebie Holdeman, Helen and Dwight Beckham, and Rowena Plett, reporter for the Marion County Record.

Steve Hudson, Marion County Lake superintendent, is pictured as he assists a representative of Hajek Fish Farm in stocking the lake with channel cat. The channel cat, including a rare albino, averaged 12 inches in length.

Marion High School graduate Casey Nelson recently filed a lawsuit claiming USD 408 and two track coaches committed wrongful acts that led to him sustaining serious injuries in an accident in April 2006.
