Three teenage boys, inmates at the Marion County Jail, overpowered their jailer Monday afternoon and broke out of jail to limited freedom for a few short hours.

Officers traced the boys to a field just east of the Art Dieter home at the southeast edge of town and took them into custody about 7:30 p.m. The three are back in jail, arraigned again, this time with the addition of a jail-breaking charge.

Wedding write-ups in this issue include those of Barbara Base and Alvin Kroupa, who were married August 1; Beverly Pankratz and Bruce Sloan, August 8; and Lucinda Hauser and Duane Reed, August 8.

John Waner, Marion County Park and Lake superintendent for the past nine years, has submitted his resignation effective August 26. He has accepted a position as patrolman on the campus of the University of Kansas.

There were no winners in this week’s Cash Day drawing. Dale Anderson, Marion, missed $50; Grace Shumate, Florence, missed $25; Bill Ubben, $5; Ernest Pemroy, Marion, $15; and Mrs. Edward Hornbeck, Marion, missed $20. First prize next week will be $100.
