Lynn Christensen, Marion’s mayor and for a long time associated with the farm equipment business here, this week purchased the Lewerenz interests in Marion Equipment Co. and became full owner of the local International Harvester dealership. The firm will now be known as Lynn’s Truck and Tractor.
Marion Mashers basketball team took the Tampa Tigers 77-69 in a town team game played Saturday evening at Marion. Gerry Harris led for Marion, scoring 21 points. Dave Deutschendorf had 17.
Marion farmer June Jost has been added to the Marion police force effective at once. He replaces Francis May, who tendered his resignation to the city commission Monday to take a position at Beech Aircraft in Wichita.
Girl Scout Troop 59 elected new patrol officers. Daisy Patrol elected Laura Brose patrol leader and Karen Pankratz, assistant. Arrowheads elected Jo Marie Mueller patrol leader and Melody Meier, assistant. Green Angels chose Jane Lentz for patrol leader and Teresa Case, assistant.
Young Marion County man Max Hayen this week took over his new position as business manager for St. Luke Hospital. He has been employed for several years at the Lincolnville Cooperative Association.
Marion High School students are collecting small items to send to an impoverished village in South Vietnam. Items they seek include soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, washcloths, and towels — anything that can be given on a person-to-person basis. The exact village to which the items will be sent will be determined by Marine Captain Richard Schwartz, who has been serving in South Vietnam for some time.
Larry Robertson, a young pumper for Slusser Drilling, is reported much improved after a serious accident last Thursday.
He somehow got his head caught in a pumping mechanism while listening for an unusual squeak it was making.
After regaining consciousness, he drove himself from Dickinson County back to the company shop at Marion. From there he was taken to St. Luke Hospital, then on to a specialist in Wichita, where he remains but says he is ready to return home.
