Work will start soon on another attractive building improvement project when a new front is installed at Marion National Bank.

Included will be a lighted sign with revolving clock and temperature, molded turquoise Plexiglas panel facing, and flower boxes.

Marion Motor Center again was successful low bidder for a police car to be rented for use this year by Marion.

A cutting torch was used to free Robert Loewen, 18, son of Leander Loewen of rural Hillsboro, who was pinned for two hours Saturday in a demolished car near Lehigh.

Young Loewen was conscious but suffering a compound fracture of the left leg above the knee, a broken little finger, and other injuries.

Susan Hansen, Steven Heinz, and Mike Steinel are attending summer music camp at Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia. In addition to academic work, a trip to Kansas City and Starlight Theater is planned.

Prices at Al & Art’s Quality Food Market this week include round steak, 79 cents a pound; rump roast, 69 cents a pound; Steffen’s ice cream, 69 cents a half gallon; Fairmont chocolate drink, 39 cents a half gallon; Lay’s potato chips, 49 cents for a family-size package; Texas corn, 59 cents for a dozen ears; and cantaloupes, four for 98 cents.

Chamber of Commerce members at a special highway meeting last week overwhelmingly approved a state plan for major improvement and permanent location of US-56 through Marion.

Former Marion High School principal Ed Frickey has been named associate executive secretary of the Kansas State Teachers Association in Topeka.
