The first girl baby born in Marion County in 1949 is Janet Eileen Naylor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Naylor of Cedar Point. She gave her first lusty cry at 2:13 p.m. Jan. 1 in Florence attended at birth by Dr. John C. Slifer. The first baby boy is Wayne Allen Smyth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Merle Smyth, born at 8:55 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Marion hospital.

The ever-popular Dollar Day is returning to Marion. Its first appearance will be Tuesday, Feb. 15. Marion merchants, under the leadership of the local Chamber of Commerce, are making big plans for it.

The Marion County sheriff’s office and its two official cars will soon be interconnected with a new two-way radio setup.

Mart Sanders and Kenneth Hett left the Marion airport Thursday morning in Sander’s Luscombe for a trip into Old Mexico with the Kansas Flying Farmers group. One hundred men are participating in the flight.

Committees were named this week by Chambers of Commerces of both Peabody and Marion with the purpose of attempting to assure the continuance of the present route of US-77 in the state highway system. Under present plans, it will revert to county control and maintenance when the new US-77 cutoff east of Marion is officially opened.
