Lester Weatherwax, popular KFBI farm announcer, will be master of ceremonies July 18 at the 4-H Business Men’s Picnic in Marion’s city park.

Construction was started Monday on the new vocational agriculture and gymnasium building on S. Lincoln St.

Over 70 cars converged on Marion Monday night as the first annual Flint Hills Hereford Tour made a stop here for supper, a program, and an overnight stay. Marion Chamber of Commerce served an evening meal to close to 200 guests who completely filled the city building’s basement dining room.

A geyser of water shot 30 feet or so into the air last week when the water main at the town’s busiest intersection let loose as city workmen were preparing to replace a leaky section with new pipe.

The annual boat races at Marion County Park and Lake have been set for August 13. Committee members announce this year’s races will prove to be more thrill-packed than those of previous years and that they are expecting 50 to 70 drivers, many of whom are known to be famous for daredevil antics.

Johnny Williams and Dan Brodhead of Marion took part July 4th in the Indian ceremonials at the second National Boy Scout Jamboree at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.
