Boys’ teams

seek late-season

momentum

As the regular season comes to an end this week, three county boys’ teams scored victories last week as they attempted to get hot and carry momentum into the post season.

Marion

The Warriors beat Sedgwick with confidence Friday night, winning 62-32 at home.

“This last week was a good one for us, we are playing good basketball at the right time,” coach Kevin Dasenbrock said, “winning four of the last five games.”

Jackson Howard dominated with 28 points scored and 11 rebounds.

Kadon Mercer, Jymer Raymer, and Carson Krause each scored eight points.

“The boys are determined to keep it rolling,” Dasenbrock said.

The Warriors will be on the road for their last regular season game Friday against Central Christian Academy.

Hillsboro

Hillsboro battled Council Grove on the road Friday night and pulled away with a 58-50 victory.

Hillsboro’s senior night and last game of the regular season will be Friday at home against Nickerson.

Peabody-Burns

Peabody-Burns edged out Centre 47-44 on the road Friday night.

Jameson Miles led his team with 23 points scored. Aiden Hurst scored eight.

On Thursday, the Warriors played Solomon at home in a makeup game and lost 66-38.

Miles scored 24 in that game. Ashton Talkington scored seven.

The Warriors will travel Friday to Trescott for their last game of the regular season.

Centre

“Im very proud of our team,” coach Richard Idleman said despite Centre losing 47-44 Friday night to Peabody-Burns. “They struggled scoring but still they left everything on the court and battled till the end. Win or lose I am proud to coach these guys every day.”

Noah Brunner scored 18 points and had four steals, four rebounds, and four blocks.

Colby Diepenbrock scored 10 with three steals, and eight rebounds. Brady Idleman had four points, five assists, two steals, and 10 rebounds.

Centre will play it last game of the regular season Friday on the road against Chase County.

Goessel

The Goessel boys played even with Herington for the first quarter Friday.

Herington led by five at halftime and scored nine consecutive points in the first two minutes of the third period.

Goessel would get as close as eight points afterward, but the Railers stretched their lead to as many as 16 and won by a final score of 63-50.

Trey Gaddis led the Bluebirds with 20 points followed by Brayton Base with 11, Kreed Smith with 9. and Tanner Unruh with 6.

The Bluebirds will end the regular season with two away games.

Goessel is now 4-14 for the season and 2-6 in the Wheat State League.
