Brother then sister win prestigious scholarship

Staff writer

Centre graduate Kaitlynn Bina is a 2025 Hagan scholarship recipient.

She will receive $15,000 a year for four years.

The Hagan scholarship is not easy to apply for. It requires multiple application processes and interviews.

Not only is it rare for a student in a rural area to receive this scholarship, the Bina family now has had two Hagan scholarship students. Kaitlynn’s brother, Justin, also got a Hagen scholarship.

Kaitlynn will have to attend workshops, work part-time, and continue to complete many different applications and interviews to keep the scholarship. She also will be required to heavily focus on leadership opportunities while she attends college.

The scholarship is a nationwide, need-based merit scholarship, providing recipients with an opportunity to achieve their goals and graduate debt-free.

Bina plans to attend Washburn University and major in pre-law with intentions to minor in English and leadership studies.

She credits her ag teacher, Jon Meyer, for his relentless dedication to her success and his willingness to help her pursue her academic and personal goals.

Jeff and Terri Bina of Pilsen are her parents.
